Amélie, a New Musical

Walter Kerr Theatre

218 W 48th Street, New York, NY 10036

Based on the Academy Award-winning 2001 French film Amélie, the story follows the whimsical and charming existence of Amélie, a lonely French waitress who decides to act as a secret wish-fulfiller to the people who live around her.

The libretto is by Craig Lucas (An American in Paris, Prelude to a Kiss), and features music by Daniel Messé with lyrics by Nathan Tysen (The Burnt Part Boys, Tuck Everlasting), and Messé. Pam MacKinnon (Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?) will direct and will feature musical staging and choreography by Sam Pinkleton (Natasha, Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812).

Phillipa Soo, who wowed audiences in the original Off-Broadway run of Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 and earned a Tony nomination as Best Actress in a Musical for her Broadway debut as Eliza Schuyler in Hamilton, plays the title role, Amélie Poulain. Adam Chanler-Berat (Next to Normal) plays her leading man.
