When you’re stuck in the daily grind, it’s easy to loose sight of the need to shake things up. ZEALnyc presents our weekly Art Break as a way for you to step away from your normal routine and see how ideas can alter lives. This week we’re calling out our downtown pick as a fine example of how challenging the status quo can change the world. And, as always, all listings are free admission.

Art Break Downtown:

Where: Baxter Street at The Camera Club of New York, 126 Baxter Street (between Hester and Canal Streets)

Who: Sadie Barnett: Do Not Destroy

What: Multi-media installation about a father’s life and times in 20th century America

Why: Individuals can make a difference in their communities and nation

Art Break Chelsea:

Who: Jean Dubuffet and Larry Poons: Material Topographies

What: Two artists work out abstract ideas through different means

Why: The struggle to illustrate what can’t be described is what motivates artists

Art Break Midtown (up to 59th Street, East or West):

Where: Nohra Haime Gallery, 730 Fifth Avenue, 7th Floor

When: Now through March 4, Tues – Sat: 10-6

Who: Feminist Feminine

What: Group show of women artists

Why: A reminder of what the marches and rallies of January 21st were all about

Art Break Above 60th Street (East or West):

Who: Rezi Van Lankveld: Schelper

What: Abstract compositions

Why: Get lost in a swirl of colors and shapes
