Jazztopad Festival Delivers Polish-Styled Ragtime at Joe’s Pub

Two creatives join up to deliver an evening of early American jazz. Pianist Marcin Masecki links up with drummer/composer Jerzy Rogiewicz for a rousing set of classic ragtimes and stride-piano hits. From this side of the pond will be tunes put on the map by the likes of James P. Johnson, Fats Waller and Eubie Blake. They’ll then deliver music from their Polish counterparts Henryk Wars and Jerzy Petersburski. In all his projects, Masecki elegantly fuses the different styles he works in, blurring the line between high art and entertainment. Since 2010 he was been working closely with Rogiewicz. —Dan Ouellette
