The Arts Converge at ‘Live at the Archway’ in DUMBO

By A. E. Colas, Contributing Writer, May 31, 2017

Start your summer weekends on Thursdays with Live at the Archway in DUMBO!

Located in Brooklyn, on Water Street between Adams Street and Anchorage Place, The Archway is one of New York City’s best public spaces. A 7,000 foot covered area (that’s the size of 5 ½ Empire State Buildings!) where anything from pop-up art installations to music performances takes place. Stop by, have a drink and a snack at the food kiosk The Lighthouse (from the creators of Superfine restaurant, located down the road), then enjoy the shows. The series is set to run from June 8 through September 28, 2017, with all shows starting at 6:00pm.

This summer Live at the Archway is presenting an eclectic collection of music from around the world, dance performances, DJ sets for dance parties (with some events having dance lessons included), and weekly art installations curated by local gallery This Friday or Next Friday. Scheduled performances from H+ | The Hip Hop Dance Conservatory, 79.5, Ola Fresca, Ghost Train Orchestra, Underground System, Hot Sardines, Gaijin À Go-Go and others guarantee to get you up and moving to the beat, meeting new people and having a lot of fun. The whole experience makes for a great way to unwind after a workday.

To get there you can take mass transit: A/C trains (High Street/Brooklyn Bridge stop), F train (York Street stop), or 2/3 trains (Clark Street stop). The bus lines are all based in Brooklyn: B25 from Downtown Brooklyn to the last stop, or B67 to Jay Street/York Street, B69 to last stop (Sands Street). There’s also the East River Ferry from Manhattan and Brooklyn that docks at the Fulton Ferry Landing or you can walk from Manhattan to Brooklyn via the Brooklyn Bridge. Another way to go is taking a CitiBike from various points and returning the bike at one of four docking stations in the area. Get directions for all travel options click here.

You’ll know you’ve arrived when you see the DUMBO Reflector, a nine foot tall sign created by artist David Crumley with digital fabrication by Gamma and designed by smartassdesign. The Reflector is part of the DUMBO Test Kitchen program, a micro grant operation that funds local start ups to produce innovations that can benefit the community.
