‘The Hills Are Alive’ and they’re opening on July 19th on Governors Island

Governors Island

Governors Island is a 172-acre island in the heart of New York Harbor. Yards away from lower Manhattan and Brooklyn, it's easily accessible by ferry and open to the public during the summer.

Be one of the first to experience The Hills on Governors Island by going out on opening day, July 19, 2016. Ferries will begin running at 9:00AM and will be free for all visitors. Picnic Point and the entire 2.2 mile promenade will also re-open to the public at that time. This is the first time the entire promenade and Picnic Point have been open since 2012, when construction on the Governors Island park and seawall began.

There are four separate hills, and each has a theme: Slide Hill features the city’s longest slide; Grassy Hill has a lush lawn; Discovery Hill features an art installation at the end of a walking trail; and Outlook Hill features probably the most spectacular views of all, even though each of the hills has spectacular views.

The park is open daily through September 25, 2016.  Access is by ferry which runs daily and costs 2$ for a roundtrip.  For more information on all activities and events hosted on the island, as well as information on the ferry schedules, click here.
