Art Break: Deeper Implications In ‘Marjan Teeuwen: Destroyed House’ at Bruce Silverstein

Marjan Teeuwen’s photographs at Bruce Silverstein

By A. E. Colas, Contributing Writer, March 12, 2018

Now that spring cleaning season is almost here, you may be wishing you could just toss everything out and start fresh. Or maybe you’d prefer to break it all down and build it up again. If that’s the case, check out Marjan Teeuwen’s photographs at Bruce Silverstein in Chelsea. The artist disassembles abandoned buildings and, using the materials to create new formations on the original site, photographs the results. Teeuwen explores the tension between destruction and creation with this project, leading the visitor to think about parallels with their own experience. Take some time this week to see this and all our other picks this week and remember, all venues are free admission.
