Summer on the Hudson: Sponsoring Free Events All Summer at Three Locations

Summer on the Hudson, sponsored by the NYC Parks department, features an unbelievable number of special events and full day festivals for individuals, as well as the whole family. Dividing Riverside Park into sections, each area sponsors a whole range of performances and participatory activities to enhance your summer. The areas are broken up as follows:
Riverside South: centers around Pier 1 at 70th and the Hudson River
Mid Riverside Park: spans from 89th Street (Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument Plaza, all the way to the Skate Parks @ 108th Street.
West Harlem Piers Park & Fort Washington Park: centers around 125th Street and Marginal Streets.
Taking place at all the various venues, there will be live performances, dance sessions, karaoke, a silent disco, movies, series devoted to children, movement and wellness opportunities in the form of pilates, yoga and Tai Chi. On Wednesday nights (July 5—August 16), Pier 1 turns into an outdoor movie theater and features the following movies starting at 8:30pm:
July 5: Blazing Saddles
July 12: Dr. Stangelove
July 19: What’s Up Doc?
July 26: The Truman Show
August 2: The Muppets Movie
August 9: The Big Lebowski
August 16: Beetlejuice
FlyNYC, a kite festival for all ages (August 19), offers kite-making kits and the opportunity to fly your masterpiece while listening to music throughout. There will be “sun gazing” on isolated Sunday afternoons throughout the summer and “stargazing” on isolated Saturday evenings. The summer season culminates with the West Side County Fair, an urban interpretation of an old-style county fair on Sunday, September 10 between 68th and 70th Streets. There is also a cafe (Pier i Cafe at 70th Street) operating seven days a week offering light refreshments and restroom facilities.
