Just off the High Line near Gansevoort St., the Whitney opens its doors to tourists and art aficionados alike. The museum, which moved from its Upper East Side location to its new building downtown in May 2015, is home to over 21,000 pieces of art of varying mediums, including sculpture, paint, films, and artifacts. The Whitney focuses primarily on 20th- and 21st-century American art and offers fun family-oriented programs like Open Studio, where families can come in and create their own artwork based on the museum’s current exhibitions.
